Covenant used tritium gas

Or the gas is some : essential material supply for Forerunner ships and the halos doubled as : repair/refit stations for the Forerunner fleet In First Strike, some of the Covenant ships heading towards the meet-up with Unyielding Hierophant also stopped at a gas giant to replenish supplies. (Pg 198 FS) "a jump to the Lambda Serpentis system to gather tritium gas for their reactors." And since the Covenant imitated Forerunner technology, I'm guessing this tritium gas was used to power both of these empire's engines/reactors/etc. By the way, Lambda Serpentis system is only about 35 light years away from Earth, and the Covenant glassed a planet there back in 2335. So they've been right next door to Earth for 20 years and never found us.
