In Response To: Theory: Delta Halo is near Earth (replay) The start is mostly a history lession but keep reading.
Maybe the Forerunner built the Halos to control new Planet systems. And made Halos so they could live on the Halos till they populate the planets. Then they met a enemy, someone they feared or they just built them in case if they find a enemey.(like the U.S and U.S.S.R). So they created the flood and put them on the Halos to hibernate untill needed.(Like nukes being created) Remember what I mentioned earlier about people agreeing if a nuclear war started we would all perish. Maybe the Forerunner used the flood and it got out of hand. The flood attacked the Forerunner,and all sentient life. So they added on to the Halos. In the Delta halo level Cortana informs you that the Forerunner had built new buildings around the old ones. Maybe they added things like the control rooms, Moniter's and senitals.Then they created a place for remote activation in case of what happened at the end of Halo 2.(Stand by mode) Seeing they where doomed they created the Moniters to make sure the firing of the Halos take place and to refire them if the flood resurface. Then they activated the rings killing everyone.(like the nukes to the human race) But the Flood survived on the Halos themself and hibernated to survive. But when "food" steps on Halo 04 and 05 they attack. Like Keys and his men in Halo 1, and the Covies on 05.
Another shorter theory.... Maybe the Forerunner only put the rings where they had populated planets. When your being killed off you might not bother putting rings where no one is. And maybe the 2 rings are close together because thats where the concentration of most of the flood are. Another theory is that the rings have slipspace. And 05 was moving to cover 04's(destroyed by MC) radius because the Forerunner programed the Moniter(s) to cover the area that the flood where attacking. When they died in the activation no one could reprogram the Moniters. Tanget was only following orders and moving 05 to cover 04.
