In Response To: Familiar plants around Delta Halo control room (Grady) : I was just playing Uprising again this evening, and I noticed that the plants : growing in the outdoor areas looked familiar. After taking a closer look, : I found that they're plants native to the Pacific Northwest, where Bungie : is headquartered. Take a look and compare the next time you're playing : that level: Sword fern: large plant , small plant : Salal : Wolf lichen : Alder (generic): general shape (these are very large as alder trees go), : leaf shape : Western red cedar: general shape , bark : It's fun to see renditions of real Earth plants in the game, and in fact the : whole area looks like it could have been lifted straight from the Pacific : Northwest coast. It makes me wonder -- were the artists just copying what : they saw out the window, or are there story implications here? Reading about the descriptions of a few of them, and a lot have link with early Americans, something that Bungie has referred to in the past. Also I would doubt if they were just put there just because they were outside the window, as I remember a Bungie employee in interview saying everything is there for a purpose, and I wouldn't say just being there for the sake of it, or to make the scenery look good. To back up my theory, the quote "The western red cedar has been called "the cornerstone of Northwest Coast aboriginal culture," and has great spiritual significance" implies that there is more to this than just pretty pictures.
