In Response To: Spec Thoughts Part I: The Crisis of the Sangheili (Marius Hamilton)

First up: You seem to be taking Halo wwwaaayyyy too seriously. It's just a game. Not a religion. Not a philosophy (unless you're a programmer / small busines). Calm down, and stop feeling the need to use big words and tons of prose. Totally unnecessary.

And they're Elites, now whatever their Covenant name is. You need to learn the Elite part, not the other name. I barely even recognize their Covenant name, but Elite is known even outside fanboys.

: Halo2 ends. Mere minutes before, the Arbiter has defeated Tartarus, the
: mighty chieftain of the now bitterly hated Jiralhanae
-With the help of Johnson and Miranda, the filthy humans. You can't split up the two sections- it's one thought. No one in the Covenant would make any distinction.

: a feat that will
: surely earn him a complete pardon in the eyes of the Sangheili public.
-Or damn him eternally, depending on how everything else works out.

: At this juncture in
: the story, it seems critical that the Sangheili stop hating humanity and
: vice versa, otherwise, all is lost…ALL, is lost.
-For us, not them. Chief will stop the Prophets. The Elites have the military strengh (with the Hunters) to be just fine. Technically, humanity doesn't have to matter at all to the Elites. They CAN help us, but not must.

: 6. Get the hell off of Installation 05 and decide what to do about the humans
: that are there. Take them along? Give them a ship? What?…
-I'm sure "Half-jaw" as you put it (it isn't a jaw, they're just mandibles that are really more of an accessory than necessity) can ready a ship for everyone.

: Good God, what a bunch of tasks, and in such a horribly short amount of time.
-Again, Chief has his part under control (we assume) and the Elites are probably going to win their fight. There's not as much urgency as you'd like to think.

: [Tons of paragraphs praising Half-jaw]
-Seriously, it's not a religion. You don't have to write all that prose.

: Forerunners have mercy on them in this dark midnight of their souls.
-Stop that. Please.

: 1. The Covenant is broken. Force has been used against them and they have
: been cast down by the Prophets using the strength of the Jiralhanae.
-WTF!? The Elites got kicked out by the Prophets, you mean.

: [long paragraphs of nonsensical prose]
-You already said the Elites are going to win the battle. They're fine, by your own assumptions. Stop worrying. They're fine.

: A more immediate question might be,
: can/should/will the Sangheili extend the courtesy of honour to humanity as
: a whole, or just this small grouping of humans on Installation05? What of
: the feared demon, the “MasterChief”,
-Master Chief and Johnson have that Klingon-type warrior's honor that will surely earn praise from Elites that don't mind the idea of an alliance. The rest of humanity would earn a spot because the Elite's old religious side might tell them that they used to be just as lost. Expect Elite churches to open on/near Earth. We all hope they want to accept us, because if they don't, we're dead.

: Is he even a demon?
-MC was only a demon for being one of the "men in special armor" that fought so hard, and then he landed on/destroyed Halo, which is now a symbol of the Elite's brainwashing by the Prophets. Chief might just turn out to be the Elites' new Jesus (don't read too much into that), because his efforts will change their culture forever. He and Arbiter will always be the ones who allowed the Elites to "throw off the shackles" of the Prophets and rise up.

: [stuff about MC and Arbiter getting killed side-by-side]
-Not going to happen. MC is the new incarnation of Marathon's security officer, and as we all know, the Hero will live forever (bla bla... read the last terminal of Infinity).

BTW: You seem to miss a big thing here... the Prophets blinded the Elites and tried to use them for (centuries? millenia?), and currently lead the Brutes against them. The Elites probably think the only form of redemption will come by blood- IE: Slaughtering the Prophets and Brutes until they wide up and swear a new allegiance. There's nothing for the Heirarchs to figure out, except trying to decide which will be more important: bowing down before the Elites or having big metal boots going into their intestines. The choice would come to them quickly... all IMHO.
