Marathon, Halo, Hardware sales

In Response To: Re: Foundation: Marathon (Dr. Blake) I have to agree that they aren't ever going to top Marathon. The bar is just so high technically these days that you have to scramble just to keep up with the Joneses (or in this case, for the Jones to keep up with everyone else.) I wasn't too impressed with the Halo:CE story, but at least it was enough to spend a few weeks here chatting with everyone about the plot. I barely feel the impulse for that this time around. Does anybody wonder what the motivation of Gravemind is? Does anyone have a rational explanation for Sarge being on Earth (I guess it's in the book, but I'm not reading it just to get the BACKGROUND STORY of a videogame to make some kind of sense.) I've probably spent 10x the time on the Marathon Story forum and site as here, even though the content is smaller, why? The story is more compelling. Maybe they need to take a clue from Infinity and bring in a set of outside authors to add some new blood into the storyline. In some ways it feels a little bit like they're just following the formula. I'll still buy Halo 3 if it comes out on this generation hardware, but I WILL NOT BUY AN XBOX 2 to play the next Halo. I bought this one solely for Halo and Oddworld, because I was a fan of the companies. This game was not good enough for me to shell out $300 for it next time around. Here is my list of demands for the next episode for me to find the storyline acceptable: 1) 343 Guilty Spark must finally throw down and go all Forerunner on Gravemind's collection of rotting asses. 2) Sarge clone factory level - where it is explained his clones are present in hundreds of units throughout the UNSC just because he's the kind of guy the Marines love. Then you could have an entire level of Sarge quotes and I wouldn't feel like they'll ignore story requirements just to maintain a character. "He kills Sarge!" 3) Playable Grunt commando level.
