In Response To: My Thursday morning BBQ (just add flames) *long (Ducain) No flames, I actually completely agree. I beat it on the 12th, and what’s rather disappointed when the credits rolled. I thought it had to be a mistake, something skipped ahead maybe. But no, the game indeed ended right where I thought it would begin. I agree with you completely. I actually have some points of game play that I didn't like. Halo gave you the feeling you were in control, you could go where you wanted when you wanted. Halo 2 (for me) seemed to be a much more linear path. You had to drive on the beach you had to drive over the bridge. The levels (although they boasted largeness) had in fact a great deal of limitations as to where you could actually go. Yes there’s a huge lake, but no you can’t go near it, in it, drive around it. The city was remarkably small nothing like the demo at E3 hinted. You are confined to a very small area killing and onslaught of covies. No retreating to anywhere, no pushing ahead, just trapped until freed by scripting. Driving the jeep is fun, but the highway was one way, there was no other choice no getting off, you drive back up the exit ramps to find the humans enjoy putting up concrete walls in the middle of their tunnels, not a door, a wall. You drive down a ravine on a ghost, yes it’s a long one, but your choices? Zero, you go strait ahead with occasional clearings. No other ways to go, no shortcuts or second passages, just straight ahead. If you don’t kill them you can go back later and they are all gone. Even the living ones, which I believe on halo if you went back the people you left were still there. The level halo on halo 1 was closed yes but with a great deal of choices, you could free them in any order and drive different ways to get there. So I guess one of my big complaints is how linear it seemed, yes I know halo1 was linear but it gave an allusion of choice. The second halo wasn’t anything like the first, the first was metal and spotless, and the second looked as if some Aztecs got to it. Why would the forerunner build one ring to withstand time and another to fall apart and decay? They left the monitors to upkeep the place, not to just hang out and slack. 343 seems to have done his job but whoever the other one is was slacking big time. Why build structures from metal on one and stone on another? Bottom line the second halo was more like something from tomb raider. I guess I was disappointed with it. With halo I played it every chance I got, with halo 2 I don’t seem to care as much, it’s much more of a “because I’m bored” time. Xbox live is fun, I haven’t played it a lot but it seems very easy to kill or be killed. Anyhow, overall it was fun, I bought it and I’m not sorry. But other than looks the game idea was too much like everything else, you jump thought the hoops with little illusion as to what you’re doing. If I have to run down a tunnel at least give me more than one tunnel to go down. I may get flamed but I was disappointed, halo 2 ended right where it should have begun.
