To be honest, I loved the game. I loved the weapons, enemies, allies, vehicles, maps, mulitplayer, and believe it or not, Single-Plyaer Campaign.
I didn't even HAVE THE GAME YET and everyone was talking about how the ending sucked (I stay on Forums alot), so right away, I acknowledged the fact that the ending would truly "Suck".
So Wedensday, I got the game, fired it up on Heroic and played through it in about 3 days. At the end, right as you're fighting Tartarus, I said to myself: "oh man, hear comes the crappy ending," but instead, what I got was an excellent cliffhanger for the situation.
Now you people are probably saying, What's he talking about excellent? They had 3 years to make something impossibly good!!! Au contraire. As soon as I finished, I popped in the Bonus DVD that comes with the Collector's Edition and watched the Behind The Scenes section. What Bungie said surprised me.
They said (Not in the exact wording, but this represents what they said):
We came back from E3 2003 with just a demo, not a game. That was really bad, actually. All the things we thought were great and cool were sent to the bottom of our list and just started to get chopped off.
So, 3 years? No, not quite. Try 17 months. They were done by October 2004 and started hauling real, serious ass in May 2003. Not November 2001. Between November 2001-May 2003, all they did was begin writing a new engine for the game, getting the hype up, just being non-chalant about their work, and making a few fragments of a story-line.
That's why I really appreciatle this game alot, because just like Halo 1, they pulled off a flawless landing in a short amount of time.
Was it better than Halo 1? It really depends on your point of view. I think Halo 2's plot comes a tad short of Halo 1's (They divided the plot in half by the way. Boy do I wish this game was due out March, 2005), but is way better than Halo 1's multi-player with all the options and XBL.
So, does, Halo 2 suck? Hell no.
Is Halo 2 just good? No.
Is Halo 2 great? Yes
