some1 else posted this idea, im just rewriting it cause i remember it, not taking credit. 'someone' was saying that perhaps the monitors were created much like our intelligent AI's by copying a person's personality. so the monitors might actually have been criminal forerunners whose punishment was to serve for eternity as the monitor, they could have been altered a little bit to make them more, shall we say, 'charitable.' that would explain the reason for the guilty names.
