In Response To: Throwing Down the Gauntlet (Finn)

: I am detecting some bad vibes in the community. Strange murmurings that haunt
: the air like a poor rationale. Yes, that is it. It is the sound of the
: wide gate opening and of steps falling on the broad path.

: It is true that Bungie has built Halo 2 with the uninitiated as well as the
: experienced in mind. But perhaps it is not merely a matter of what we, the
: Community, are allowed to do, but what we should aspire to do.

: With reasons that none can truly understand, the first option for many will
: be to easily jump and skip to the game's conclusion; we will speak no more
: of these.

: Many more will test the waters on normal, if for other reason than to get a
: handle on the controls and the new gameplay characteristics. There is no
: shame here.

: For others, a more difficult road lies ahead; one full of heroic effort and
: sacrifice.

: And while these are commendable paths, I believe there is yet a higher
: calling.

: I challenge anyone who is willing or able to complete Halo 2 for the first
: time, either alone or with a friend co-operatively, while playing all
: levels only on Legendary.

: Who will rise to the occasion? :)

: Finn

This has been my plan ever since my experience with Halo.

I spent many, many hours playing multiplayer with friends before I received an Xbox and Halo for Christmas last year.

I played the game on Normal, and finished it in two days.

That was one heck of a letdown.

Now, when I made it through on Legendary, after weeks of carnage, death, and agony, THAT was one satisfying moment (I'm better now, and could probably get through in one week of an hour or two a night. At the time, though...). As well, the story didn't feel rushed and short on Legendary, because it took me a week or so to beat certain levels (T&R comes to mind).

That's what I want to experience with Halo 2. I may go through on the lower difficulty levels later on, but even if it takes me months, I'm going through Legendary for the first time, all the way.

Actually, ash has a good idea, to record your first time through. Now, if I only can get forty hours of video tape... ;-)
