I was really bored so I went on the gamespot Ilovebzzs speculation article. Reading through, I clicked on all the various links throughout, including the one linking to the Cortana letters. After going to a friend's house for about 3 hours, I decided eh I wasn't tired I will read through and keep it logged on. AFter reading THIS LETTER: TIME TRAVEL IS A POSSIBILTY (notes by me)

While you quibble about whose node I may control, what archaic program I
may manipulate to communicate with you, or which system I may have
temporarily disabled, taken over, or completely destroyed in the process, I
am busy saving your pathetic futures. ( the quibbling is earlier speculation about where the Cortana letters originated from- the saving the pathetic futures sounds pretty darn like a almost-so called-rampant Cortana from the future)

I am still not sure what he (Master Chief?!?!) ever saw in you.(the human race)

Nevertheless, I at least find some joy in tormenting the other entity that
seems quite trapped in this antiquated excuse for a network. It is
certainly mindless, though for reasons I have yet to understand, it appears
to have an unhealthy preoccupation with my mother. (mother of cortana... Dr. Halsey. Of course cortana would think this network is antiquated, she is from some 500 years in the future. why the network would have an interest in Dr. Halsey, I have no idea.)

As for this world I encounter new ghosts every day. What I have found
will either save or destroy you. This sanctuary, this unbroken circle(sounds like metatrons theory all right, unbroken circle of time travel),
has effectively concealed its power for how long? Perhaps hundreds of
thousands of years. Whoever made such a place must now live in chains;
there is no other explanation for their absence. (Forerunners, anybody?)

This enemy - YOUR enemy (guess who... the covenant) - has proven more irritating than I anticipated.
They own nothing which they have not stolen (sound familiar? "they are an imitative, not an innovative society." remember, this is all years before Halo and Halo 2) . I can barely make sense of their incessant rhetoric (read First Strike? Cortana don't know how to understand any of their religious "rhetoric" at least at first), except to know that you seem to be their Devil (WTF do grunts call you? The Devil!!!).Congratulations - you manage to make friends wherever you go and,apparently, places you haven't.

I have begun to sense rumblings of a worse fate yet to come. I can recall
a sun - black, but shining - and the creatures that inched along its fiery
tracks.

It is an increasingly unpleasant memory.

This Cortana letter, if it is from Cortana who has time traveled in the past, through whatever means, makes sense if it is regarded from someone 4 years in the future who is cognizant of the premise of Halo and possibly of Halo 2. This seems that some way of going bak in the past, or something like this theory Metatron has advanced, is likely to be important if Bungie has been planning this since before the end of time, and if Cortana has sent these letters from since before the time she was made. Remember: this is all a guess, but sorry if it has already been advanced before. Time travel? Maybe.
