-While naturally, I find it's possible that some of the 30 "dead" Spartans actually died, it seems unlikely that nearly half the subjects (40%) would die. The 12 surviving Spartans who fell to the potential risk of the augmentations show ALL those side effects. Remember,Fhamad is described as having Parkinson's, Kirk and Rene were in neutral-bouyancy get tanks, because their bones had been so twisted that they no longer looked human(bone pulverizations). Also, why would Halsey, the founder and lead scientist of the program, dispose of the bodies. If there was indeed a new batch of Spartans, as the book implies, then why wouldn't the 30 "dead" Spartans be kept for reasearch... it is a program based on science, which is for the militar, not the other way around:)

-The MC arrives at Halo on the 18th. The mission clock time on Halo can then be added up to the destruction of Halo on the 22nd, which is also the date given by the book... before slipspace enters the equation. Finally the MC uses the Ascendent Justice, which has considerable faster slipspace capabilities, to arrive at Reach on the 23rd. The MC can't go back and change what has already happened:)

-Actually, I meant to take that quote out, because if you look at the conversation as a whole, 343 GS can be shown to be saying something entirely different than the activation of Halo.

343 GS - "We have followed outbreak containment procedure to the letter. You were with me each step of the way, as we managed this crisis." "Why would you hesitate to do what you have already done?"

It's quite probable that 343 GS is saying, in layman terms, "you've done everything protocol requires, why would you not continue down this path?"

-My point in this section was to show, the UNSC (30 yrs ago) had ample opportunity to destroy the base. There were many indiactors pointing to its exact location. Also, it's not UNSC controlled space, because before the Covenant attacked Humanity, the rebels where pirating this area. Now (2552) the Covenant are in controll of the area. This is why Kalmiya states that the 512 alphnumeric string points to an area of "uncontrolled UNSC space". Could you expand upon your question? I'm not quite sure I follow.

-Halsey whispers to herself this section to herself in a knowing manner. A few lines down, Halsey references the symbols found on the artifact on Cote d' Azur, with the 512 string. Notice, she never looks up the location of the 512 string, yet she compares the two. She then finds that the symbols on the artifact is a DIFFERENT location than the 512 string. The use of different implies that she knows both locations.

Please exuse the amount of time it took for me to reply. I'm not familar with posting at HBO, yet:)
