In Response To: Re: The Theory of Everything (for Halo, at least) (Ninja Steve)

Questions and statements.

What is the connection between Humans and the Forerunner?

Why did 343GS ask the MC "Last time, you asked me, if it was my choice, would I do it? Having considerable time to ponder your query, my answer has not changed."? - Time travel or mistaken identity? The 'having had considerable time' part surely indicates a lot of time has passed, but is he mistaking you for someone, or has he met you already?

Why does 343GS think you brought inffective weapons to combat the Flood? Where are these cooler weapons he seems to know about? Did the Forerunner have better weapons in the past?

Does 343GS telling you you have a Class 2 combat skin instead of a Class 12 infer some sort of time travel in Halo 2, a Class 12 MC (would they be that advanced?) going back to the past?

Why do the Covenant want to kill all humans? ("Your destruction is the will of the Gods, and we are their instrument")

Why were The Flood (Forerunner genetic experients) initially created?

When 343GS says "The installation was well conceived. It is surely the only way to end the Flood threat." - why was it a threat, if they were created? Are they a natural phenomenon? The ring having 'research facilities' more implies they were created by the Forerunner. If that's so, does that mean there was a threat/chance of them escaping? Had they escaped before?

343GS doesn't seem to know about the Covenant, only referring to them as 'the other species', he also says they seem peristant in accessing restricted areas... so why are they doing so? It's clear they don't know - there are comments that they found something which frightened them, but do their superiors, the Prophets know?

"Why naturally the Flood is simply too dangerous to release, and mass sterilization protocols may again need to be enacted. Of course, samples were kept here after the last catastrophic outbreak...for study. It seems... that decision may have been an error." OK, that seems pretty clear that the Flood escaped once before and Halo was fired to kill their food. But who survived to keep these samples? And how did they survive? And why did they want to keep the samples?

343GS: "The installation was specifically built to study and contain the Flood. Their survival as a race was dependent upon it. I am grateful to see that some of them survived to reproduce." Who's survival? The Flood? The Forerunner? Why is he grateful? Does he think you're a Forerunner? Is he grateful in a sick perverse way about the Flood? If he is, why is getting his sentinels to kill them? If he does mean Forerunner/Humans... why 'their' why not 'your'?

2Betrayals:
"343GS: Is something wrong?
MC: No, nothing."
What is this discourse about? Some of the moments in the Halo novels also have the MC feel a strange sense of familiarity (they say he instincively knows which button to press)... time travel? Or a Forerunner connection?

The one thing that does bother me is the initial slip-space jump - maybe you did indeed travel through time, not just space... hence why the Covenant ships were 'waiting for you' - they weren't, they were just researching the ring. However, if this is true, how will the start of Halo 2 be handled? It already seems the MC gets back to Earth and it's still 'present day'.

And anyone read 'Against A Dark Background'? I've got it but not had time to start reading... though glancing at the chapter titles is revealing...
