how bout this......
Posted By: Timmay <tpbowman@msn.com>Date: 7/2/04 10:57 p.m.

In Response To: Re: Forgot to mention... (chaotic_mind)

: He mentions that "this installation" was made to combat the Flood.
: And he also mentions that "this installation's pulse has a maximum
: effective radius of twenty-five thousand light years." But this also
: the author of this crystal clear statement, "The installation was
: specifically built to study and contain the Flood. Their survival as a
: race was dependent upon it." It seems to me, that their is some doubt
: as whether the antecendent of their is the Forerunner or the Flood. So,
: I'm not sure we can trust that 343 GS is refering to the same
: "installation" when he speaks.

: After all, why build an variety of ecosystem to study one creature? There is
: some point to the fact of the Flood's danger making them important enough
: to warrant the extra life on board Halo. Still, to test the Floods effects
: on the environment and life of Halo's various environments would
: consitute, in my mind, an "catastrophic outbreak". If Halo was
: one big laboratory for just the Flood, it would be difficult to contain
: the Flood in just one section. What's to prevent them from spreading to
: other parts of the ring? And, if their is something to contain them for
: experimentation, why didn't we use it to contain the Flood?

: My thought is that, yes, Halo is or once was a laboratory. It was built to
: help the Forerunner understand how ecosystems work. I would think an
: understanding of how life works on a planetary scale would help
: interplanetary civilization colonize new worlds with little muss or fuss.

: I think something disatrous happened to the Forerunner. Possibly the release
: of the Flood, but I think the Forerunner might've been able to manage that
: conflict with their level of technology. After all, given a little bit of
: luck and way more resources then they had on Halo, I think the UNSC could
: manage a Flood outbreak without the destruction of all life in the galaxy.
: (Though, perhaps the Flood were not up to their full strength after
: awaking from hibernation and not at their full intelligence on Halo 04.) I
: have recently become attached to the idea that the Forerunner experienced
: social collapse as they reached the end of easily habitable worlds.
: Basically, the Forerunner reached a point where their civilization was
: growing too fast, and consuming too many resources to ensure that all
: within the Forerunner got what they needed. Basically, presented with
: this, centralized culture and government failed within the Forerunner. In
: this time of civil war, Halo was turned into a "fortress world".
: The Flood were released, but could not be stopped. And so the Forerunner
: fell.

: Luke P.

how bout this: the humans and covenant were both part of the forrunner (as iv said before), but there was a religious split between the humans and the rest of the covenant(as a reason for the war that is, and for the fall of the forrunner due to a religious war. and the covenant made the flood to battle the humans. but something went wrong and it began to consume the covies too. and what if the worlds that contains the rocks and stuff leading to halo and were once covenant worlds but taken over by humans, and that why the covenant says calls periods of time ages of reclamation, they reclaiming their worlds.
just a thought.
