Well think o' this: Maybe they knew they had failed to find any antedote to the Flood. But they might have thought if they gave their "futrue" selves access to Halo then maybe they could find a way even the original Forrunner couldn't. And heres something else: Who says the Forrunners are only one race? Why not a collective of races like the Covenant? I think that the Covenant and the humans must have a long time come from the same source. And one more thing about the top post: I don't see how the Fprruners could be at wat with the Flood. The Flood are NOT a sentient race. Theyre not a race period. They are oversized bacterial spores. And the Flood warriors arent actually Flood theyre just life infected by Flood. So the actual Flood cant actually wage war against somebody.
