Ah... but THAT's the key to the whole thing... and also, perhaps, why this theory (well, a version of it) is right. For SOME reason (forerunner artifact, maybe?) Earth is immune to the effects of the Halo. It's a safe zone, like a planetary bomb shelter for when you fire the nukes. It's where the forerunners/humans went when they fired the Halo remotely (via Reclaimer/343 GS) 100,000 years ago. THAT is why the Covenant want to find the location of Earth (though it is possible that only the Prophets really know this). THAT is what they are seeking.
