I bumped into that scenario myself a few months back, after bombing through in the Warthog. I came back up the spiral path and wham! There was a big welcoming comittee, just like you say. Not sure it was 50 though; I can't recall more than maybe 20, if that. But your description encourages me to have another go and see how much mileage can be got out of it.
