I don't know about you guys, but in all of this theory, a foundation has yet to be laid down. In the end, it doesn't seem that the knowledge is being applied to the book in practical terms.

From all the research that's been done, here's my nutshell theory:

It has been speculated, that humans are descendants of forerunners in some fashion. As far as literal translations of cross-breeding, it seems ireelevant until Bungie throws the answers our way. But we do know that the Covies hate our guts. I think (and as others before me have speculated) that the Forerunner are thought of as a diety as a whole. Their technology and wisdom was infinite. Much in the way we view God. (Sure would explain the construction of the Pyramids and stuff).

The Prophets/Elites were probably once the worshipers, or servants of the Forerunner. In some fashion, I bet that someone pissed the Forerunners of causing them to abandon any area of space we could fathom/travel to. The Flood, in itself, represents an Apocalyptic threat (like a Flood, plague or other Holy Punishment). Bungie has noted on several occasions that the Flood and the Covies have a history together. I'm sure this will be played out at some point (in the game or a book).

Humans and Earth, represent "God's" other creation, Earth. We were "created" in "God's" image. And much in the vein of Lucifer and the rest of the fallen servants of God, the Covenant hate us for being lower beings. While the Covenant have superior weapons, we have the ability to innovate, and to create. The Covenant merely imitate what was already given to them.

I believe that the Spartans are some sort of guardians. I'm not sure how they play out in a biblical translation, but I'm sure someone else can elborate in my place. Maybe the MC is like the 2nd coming of Christ. :) (I say that joking, but maybe that has something to do w/ Guilty Spark)

On another note I wanted to add a couple other things. I think that out of all the places for EarthCity to be located (a level in Halo 2) they chose somewhere in Africa. Much of the basis of theology is derrived from there.

Also, I don't know how this comes into play, but "Cortana" is the name of the "Sword of Durandal" in mythology. That's definitley a Marathon reference but I'm not sure if they will tie the two series together somehow...
