In Response To: Theory on the origins of the war (Ain Soph Aur)

: It
: is possible that one of the ships they attacked was carrying a Prophet of
: extreme status to the Covenant. So, having been attacked by a human
: vessel, this Prophet would have been outraged, along with all the other
: Covies around.

yeah, I woulda been pissed too, and as stated in first strike, they already conquered countless worlds and would have no problem doing it again.

: It would basically have been seen as an attack on all they
: held holy, due to the status of the Prophets in general and this one in
: particular. After destroying the rogue vessel, the fleet moved inwards
: toward the Harvest system.

If you ask me, the prophets really arent prophets, my theory is that the 'prophets' are actually just political figures that are manipulating the covanent beliefs for power, kind of like the muslim leaders.

: By now, the whole of the body of Prophets at
: least would have been notified and been extremely suspicious of humans.

Its far more than that, the epilogue in first strike tells us more than all the books combined, but yet leaves more questions than answers. for all we know, the great journy could be heading towards earth, or it could be heading into another galaxy. but one thing is clear, it revolves around those forerunner crystal artifacts. the way its worded, the covanent could already have all the crystal they need and just want to wipe out the humans for sport, or there could be a huge stockpile of crystal on earth.

but the clearest thing of all is this:
the covanent want humanity dead, but earth intact. thats why they invade as opposed to just blowing away the planet death-star style.
