Yes, in many ways, Oni had flaws unusual for a Bungie game. Level design, having been handled by architects, didn't throw brand new structures and scenery at you every three seconds (I had no problems with this, and kind of liked the effect, although many didn't). AI wasn't particularly great, and my friends and I still have random bursts of sadness over the lack of multiplayer. But, I still love the game. The controls were incredibly fluid and intuitive; my non-gaming sister could fight competently fifteen minutes after she began playing. But, for me, the real fun began as you tried to absolutely master the in-close fistfighting; last time I played it seriously, I was working on fighting crowds of five or six enemies, simultaneously, without weapons. It lends itself to vidmaster-style playing far more than Halo does, since it's possible to block/dodge everything in the game, except for certain projectile attacks. I could rant for hours about how wonderful it was, and why Bungie should get the rights back from Take Two (or at least get Take Two to let us have the source code...), but instead I'll shut up, after suggesting you head over to oni.bungie.org and try the demo. -Nate (loves Oni, and wishes he could modify it more than he can) | |
