No. Almost everyone will see a televised ad campaign if aired widely enough. A small fraction would find out about it on the 'net - especially parents buying it as a present.

Genius. Spend huge amounts of money on ads to inform "the rest". That marketing course has evidently done wonders.

No. It's called doing something that could only work in the fevered minds of the cranially challenged. It makes no sense whatsoever. You just wouldn't reach half of the market.

Did your course take place in a caravan, by any chance? And did they give you a certificate printed on toilet paper? People take not of ads whether they mean to or not. If it had no effect on sales, companies simply wouldn't do it.
