Re: Reading TOO much into Guilty Spark?

In Response To: Re: Reading TOO much into Guilty Spark? (Vanillathunder)

: Yeah, it is.

: Still, though.. it takes a lot of OVER COMPLICATED explain-aways out of the
: mix.

: Why hesitate in firing a weapon that you just went through all of that
: trouble to load and prime?

: Think from GS's perspective. He's an A.I. and he has a rule set to follow.
: He's going to follow those rules to the end. (Uh oh, this smacks of
: 2001/2010) No matter what, even if it means killing you.

: We've gotten the weapon to the point where our interaction will no longer be
: needed..

: Hence
: "Why would you"

: The player, and reclaimer.

: "hesistate to do"

: Not want to fire the weapon

: "What you've already done"

: Taken the process to a point where you are no longer needed.

: Think in terms like this: You have a handgun, you pull the trigger, the
: firing pin hits the primer, the primer ignites.. lights the gunpowder and
: the bullet flies out the barrel.

: In this analogy, you've already pulled the trigger and the 343GS is the
: firing pin...

: It's like trying to stop a bullet before it leaves the chamber, but after you
: pull the trigger. Now, from 343GS's perspective.. isn't that a little late
: to be having second thoughts?

: I think this fits together a LOT easier than time travelling MC's and trying
: to put together stuff from the Bungie Mythos.

: Consider this: In PiTD, the Jjaro send a hologram to earth to warn us. This
: kind of shows you that we were known of for "millions of years".
: Hence, 343GS' knowledge of us, but puts us in a very nice position to not
: be affected by the Halo firing. 343GS, being around for a VERY long time
: and RUNNING A STATION OF CONTAINMENT AND STUDY, specifically of a species
: which feeds on sentient life would most likely be aware of any and all
: current and upcoming races which would be affected by the Flood.

: That being said, Reclaimer is just (IMO) a nice term to put for the guy who
: "reclaims the index" to fire the Halo.

: Get your SAT books out!

: Reclaimer is to Index as Finger is to Trigger.

: You've "Reclaimed" the index from its hiding place.

: Side Note: What if the Flood are used as Terraforming objects, much like the
: F'lickta and S'pht are in Marathon. Certainly there is a JJaro link to
: both the Marathon and Halo stories.. maybe the Flood are a different
: version of the F'lickta and S'pht??

: It would make sense that if you have Terraforming and Maintenance species:
: Fleeing all W'rkncacnter, Yrro and Pthia
: settled upon Lh'owon. They brought the
: S'pht, servants who began to shape the
: deserts of Lh'owon into marsh and sea,
: rivers and forests. They made sisters for
: Lh'owon to protect and maintain the paradise.

:

: We are leaving behind many F'lickta to keep
: the ducts clean and working. They should
: be able to build one of their stable
: societies here- there is plenty of food.
:

: You would certainly have a cleanup and destruction crew.

: I dunno.. I'm ranting.

I have to agree with the reasoning that you put into the message: "Why would you hesitate to do what you have already done?" it makes a load more sense and the gun similarity(i would think of a better word but i just got up, its 9:36 here in New Zealand and it's the school holidays, can you blame me?)is pretty cool. besides it makes sense.

Long Live the Pants! May the Covenant never get their filthy hands on it!
