I don't know if one female character really makes Bungie a great leader in that area. There weren't any in Myth, unless you talk about Fetch or the odd evil priestess, and Marathon was devoid of the physical manifestation of humanoid females. Konoko is not only Bungie's first female protagonist, but indeed one of the first actual females in their games ever!
