I've noticed it among other games as well... Quake, Tribes, Diablo... check out gameranger. You folks snuck in earlier, when you're game identity couldn't be easily translated into other aspects of online life. You couldn't do a forensic@bungie.net or even @yahoo.com Hence your RL name had to be known eventually. I would imagine a.g.m. had very little in the way of nicknames and no real names.
