As much as anything. 8-)
Here's an idea. I know we are assuming that Marathon isn't necessary to figure out what's going on in this puzzle... but suppose the numbers are a Beale cipher, and the text of the Arrival map terminals is the key. Will one of you who has a lot of time on your hands please go through and index the terminal text -- each word numbered sequentially -- so we can see if these rings contain a message? (I'm sure not going to do it.... 8-)
