I don't think we're on the right track, either of us. But for argument's sake, I put the "I" right of center because it fits into the board that way. It's positioning in the glyph is irrelevant, since all the mystery symbols were located in the center of their glyphs. Imagine a tic-tac-toe board that, when empty, looks like a hash mark (#). See my poor approximation below:
