I don't think it matters whether or not the loops are closed. I'm also guessing that the symbol doesn't have much to do with the outer numbers, either. My reasoning is that there is already a glyph that deals directly with the outer numbers, and none of the puzzles so far have been open to individual interpretation. I think that Claude was speaking only of the types of languages that were proposed when he made the comment about not even being in the right city. My current thinking is that the symbol is a letter in some written language. Of course, I can't find any character, anywhere, that looks like it... ;)
