I was just speculating as to whether knowing if the lines are closed or not would really help us that much.
Also, it looks like caligraphy to me. The circles are closed (imho), but seem open because horizontal lines are thinner than vertical lines, has to do with the shape of the pen. Imagine a pen that looks like a slash '/', and you'll see what i'm talking about...
