Ok, its 4 AM but I think I might be on to something. according to http://www.halfmoon.org/calendar.html, there are glyphs associated with the moon, each glyph having a different letter, E, D, C, X, B, and A. Now there is more to this, but I dont' have time to mess with it, but with the page above, it gives a link to a device that will let you enter in a date and it gives you the mayan equilivant. Yes you can use 1974 (selected as 74). See what this gives.
