We know it's not lingual-not part of any language.
I think it could just be a symbol... one that you don't see too often-
Perhaps a logo? It looks like the symbol for Parlophone Records:

Or an "and" sign (&) <-on a mac keyboard, this can be typed by hitting shift-7)
Or the british pound symbol (£) <-(on a mac keyboard, this can be typed by hitting option-3)
Maybe it corresponds to a symbol on a keyboard... notice how hitting option 3 and option 7 produce those two symbols... 3 and 7 my friends... 3 and 7 ;)
