Ah, Beale Codes. Some of the most difficult to crack. Two possibilities, as I see it:
1) Marathon is important not just as the destination but as the key to the journey.
2) Marathon is not needed. Anybody, even the Marathonless, can figure it out.
If 1, than matching numbers with terminals, end screens, the manual, etc. is likely necessary (assuming this Beale line of reasoning)
If 2, than scrap this, and we're wasting our time along this path.
